Ethiopian Yirgacheffe: Where Every Cup Tells a Story

In the highlands of southern Ethiopia, morning begins with the scent of ripening coffee cherries. At 1,900 meters above sea level in the Gedeo Zone, farmers handpick each cherry at peak ripeness, just as they’ve done for generations. This is where our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe begins its journey.

The cherries are harvested in October and carefully laid out to dry under the open sky. For 18 days, they’re turned every few hours, a patient process that protects the fruit’s character and brings out its natural sweetness. More than 650 small family farms contribute to this lot, delivering their harvest to the Aricha Mill, operated by Cherab na Betesebu and family. Every step is done with care because the quality depends on it.

What ends up in your cup is vibrant and layered.

The first sip is bright and lively, with a clean acidity that wakes up your palate. Then comes a gentle sweetness, balanced and natural, followed by a smooth, velvety body. Subtle notes of florals and citrus unfold as the coffee cools, and a soft nutty finish lingers long after the last sip.

This is a coffee that changes slightly with temperature, rewarding those who take their time. Drink it black to experience its full character or add a touch of milk to soften the brightness while keeping its delicate complexity intact.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe isn’t just coffee. It’s heritage, patience, and craftsmanship in every cup.
