San Marcos de Tarrazú, Costa Rica. 1,300 Meters Above Sea Level.
This is one of the most recognized growing regions in the world for a reason. At 1,300 meters in the mountains of Tarrazú, cool air slows the cherry's development and concentrates its flavor. Our Costa Rican air roasted coffee is sourced from Coopetarrazú — a farmer cooperative with over 60 years of history and more than 5,000 active members — and air roasted in small batches to protect every note the mountain grew into the bean.
The Coopetarrazú Cooperative
Founded in 1960 by 228 small producers, Coopetarrazú was built to give small farmers a stronger voice and fairer profits. Today it supports nearly 10,000 jobs annually and oversees every step from harvest to export. The quality in your cup is traceable, consistent, and backed by six decades of craft. Approximately 80% of members farm four hectares or less. This is small-farm coffee at scale.
From Cherry to Export — How It's Processed
Harvested in the new year, the Catuaí and Caturra cherries are fully washed and mechanically dried for uniform quality across every lot. Green beans are export-ready by April — which means the coffee reaching you is from the most recent harvest, not sitting in a warehouse from two seasons ago.
What Air Roasting Does for This Bean
Costa Rican beans are naturally bright. Drum roasting can push that brightness into sharpness. Hot air wraps every bean from every angle — no drum, no direct flame — so the tropical fruit stays lively and the chocolate comes through clean. Medium roast. Nothing masked. Nothing burnt.
Amazing! I've had coffee all over the country. This is by far and away one of my absolute favorites. Smoothest coffee you'll find anywhere. August, verified customer.
