This week I begin publishing the longest story in this series so far. Three parts. Three weeks. One building in Lisbon where twelve artists have come to make something true.
The setting is an international arts residency. The year is 2022. The world outside is loud, complicated, and heavy.
Inside, someone brews coffee every morning before anyone arrives. The smell of it moves through the building before the work begins. Every evening, a French press, a thermos of hot water, and two cups appear at each studio door.
No note. Just coffee. Just the quiet signal that tomorrow is still possible.
This is a story about what happens in the space between people when words are not enough. It is about art. And it is, like everything in this series, about what coffee makes possible when nothing else can.
